McKenzie Friends Consultation

  |   Latest News

Following the recent unprecedented rise in the number of litigants in person now accessing the court service, and the consequent rise in the number and variation in the quality of “McKenzie Friends” assisting LiPs, the Judicial Executive Board has issued a consultation paper proposing and seeking views on potential reforms of the McKenzie Friend system.

Further information can be found here and the consultation paper can be downloaded here.  Responses are required by 19th May 2016.

Proposals for consideration include a prohibition on fee-charging McKenzie Friends, production of a code of conduct and a change of nomenclature to “Court Supporter”.
